"I am the voice shouting in the wilderness.

Clear the way for the Lord's coming!"

The verse for last week is: Matthew 4:19-20

Jesus called out to them, "Come follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!"

The Desert Pearls

Believing that the Christian life is strengthened by being shared, a group of Christian women in Yuma, Arizona meet monthly for Bible study, personal sharing, and accountability. Not unusual, of course, but what they call themselves is a bit uncommon.

The unique name they have chosen for their group is the Desert Pearls. Why the name? One of the women, gave an explanation, "The image of small grains of sand being churned about inside an oyster shell and eventually becoming beautiful and valuable gems is not unlike ourselves. Without Christ, we are Just grains of sand. With Christ, we are changed into 'pearls' valuable to God.

God wants us to shine, to be whole."

The woman goes on to explain that the members of the group are learning to trust God, others and themselves. She asks this challenging question of the rest of us, "When are you going to crawl out of your oyster shell and share your beauty---your gifts from God---with the church?"
